The centre "Nanotechnology and Photonics" at the FH Giessen-Friedberg assists companies with the developement of new nanotechnological products. With the help of the NanoNetzwerk Hessen NNH10-9 the FH Giessen-Friedberg tries to increase the acceptance of this technology. This is done by practical training courses and lectures for students, by conferences and by projects in common with companies and centres of reserch.
The centre is concerned with design, layout and tests relating to integrated optoelectronic circuits on the basis of so-called standard, mixed-signal CMOS processes. In the past, the group's work focussed on the development of pure ASICs. Now photodiodes are integrated as well. In a current project, first steps are being performed in the field of 50 nm structured circuits in combination with optoelectronic elements.
The group is concerned with the development, preparation and testing of optoelectronic systems.
Additionally, silica and polymer fibres with a cladding consisting of submicron hole structures are being tested with regard to new characteristics and applications. Special measuring techniques based on existing systems are under development.
